5 out of 5 stars I like this printer   May 15, 2010

I bought this pinter over a month ago. I think the price was good, I paid less than 90£. It was easy to setup, instructions were very clear for installing catridges and for connecting to a wireless netowrk. I can now print from any where at home. It has a nice touch screen panel which I like it very much. It's nice to see a double sided printing option in this printer, which is good for the planet. There are a couple of options to connect to internet but I haven't used them. I don't know if most of the people will ever use them. Printing is quick, makes less noise than my old HP printer and the scanning is faultless. Remember that you can also scan from remote computer from anywhere at home, of course you need to go to the printer to place the documents if you have many pages to scan :).

So far I am happy and I have no complaints with this printer. I would recommend this to my friends.

5 out of 5 stars I have a fab new printer!   May 27, 2010

Just got this printer after having the Lexmark X4850. In comparison to that I have found the S605 to be a lot faster at doing most things. It looks very stylish and is lightweight. It is very easy to install with a CD guiding you step by step through it with instructions and visual demonstrations. The touch screen on the printer allows you to go back and forwards through every element - scan, copy and print, so you don't get lost when working out how to do things. It has a great tutorial to guide you through the basic and more advanced options the printer can perform. The exit paper tray is great as it cups the paper and the paper doesn't just drop on the floor if more than one piece of paper is printed.
The scanning of photos is great as it gives you the option of printing it in full page, 9 x wallet size photos, 2 ½ page photos or bordered ones. The quality is much better and colours much sharper than our old printer and it is hard to decipher between the original and the copy.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Printer   August 3, 2010

The longer I have this printer the more I love it !!

It works great with my imac and my pc.

The printer was delivered very quickly. It arrived at 4pm and the printer was unpacked and set up ready to print wirelessly by Neighbours (5.30pm). They really were the best installation instructions I have ever come across.

Re: Wi fi connection. I followed on screen instructions for wireless connection to Airport, put in network password and Apple Password and nothing happened. The wi fi symbol on printer stayed orange (not connected) and the software on computer did not respond. Didn't give up. Took out the USB lead and then put it back in again. Went through the passwords again and the Wi fi symbol on Printer changed to Green (i.e. it is recognised). The software on desktop however continued unresponsive so I did Force Quit. Then option came up to go back and carry on selecting Printer Options which I did to finish process. But once that green light shows you are connected wirelessly. So you can scan, print and do everything without having to connect to laptop. Bliss!

There is another bonus - a 3 year guarantee! You just need to ensure you register with Lexmark when it prompts you to do so. It will then ask for your name and details and Serial no. of Printer which is on label on back of printer. It also tells you to hang onto your receipt. So don't forget to save your receipt and keep it in safe place. It is worth taking the trouble to do this for 3 year Gurantee and Lifetime Phone Support.

Add ons
Also once you are registered there is a Lexmark Smartsolutions Website. Here you can download add ons for your printer. It takes you through the add ons and you select whichever you fancy and click add. For instance there is a clock which you can have 24 hour or with the date which will display the time on front panel of your printer. Also a Calculator. Other stuff like News headlines and Weather, Travel etc. It is worth checking for updates from time to time. I found the clock useful and also the calculator.

Scanning
If you open up the icon Lemark S600 Series Center that is in software on desktop folder, an option box comes up. It is brilliant - it asks what you are scanning and then what you are going to use the scan for. So it works out what resolution is correct for that purpose. Excellent! Takes away all the hard work. If you are scanning for on screen you can get away with a lower resolution than printing out etc.

Printing
My last printer was puffing and blowing after one page, and was so slow. This beauty reeled off a 40 page document quickly and smoothly with no complaints. It's pretty good quality even on draft. If you are printing out something for Work or College you may need to do on higher quality but for personal purposes draft is fine and perfectly legible.

Double-sided Printing
First time I tried it didn't work. Maybe because I did it on fast draft. Next time I did it on normal and also selected Advanced and Extended drying time as ink wasn't drying quick enough between turns. Now works fantastic. Just a matter of getting the settings right for your needs. The paper prints out one side as normal and then you have to leave it and it grabs it back in to do the other side. Never had this function before so have played with it a lot! It is great for doing Newsletters though or booklets.

Printing Photos
I found one of the easiest ways to print photos is to put in camera card or flash drives with photos on and just select from the options. It really is easy.

Noise
It is a little noisy upon starting up but once printing is very quiet. Unlike my old printer I would feel comfortable printing when everyone is asleep!

Ink
Really pleased with the economy of the ink. My last printer could only do a couple of colour 6 x 4 photos on glossy paper, about ten pages of text and a couple of patterned A4 on draft and all the ink tanks would be drained. I kid you not! Not so with this one - it is excellent. I have printed out four 6 x 4 photos on glossy paper as well as 50 plain text pages and 8 paged coloured newsletter. Looked at the tanks and they are all still 3/4 full. Some people might not find that a lot, but after the way my old printer ate ink up - I am stoked !!!

I do card making and keep finding more and more things that this printer will do. If I need to do a quick scan of a backing paper it is so quick and easy. Just scan with Magazine Option for Printing and then save to File. Then I tried printing a copy of the backing paper. I did it on Best quality and it's identical to the original! so much better quality than my last printer. Checked the ink and it used hardly any.

Also for my card making I wanted to do inserts with a printed greeting, e.g. Happy Birthday! - I bought some inserts of a particular size and found if I went into Page Set Up and Custom Size, typed in the dimensions and with a bit of practice on cheaper paper and experimenting with orientation could set up a Custom Size for the inserts.

I'm actually blown away by this printer. Initially I couldn't decide what make of printer to get. I usually stick with HP or Epson but decided to try a different make this time. I am so glad that I did because this really is a beauty. Well it is quite handsome. It is big and chunky but sturdy and reliable. It has already been christened - The Incredible Hulk !!
